Hanoi is considered Vietnam's cultural center, and we recommend you enjoy the puppet shows, unique music, and dance performances that will be a worthy investment of your time and currency. The city’s streets are enchantingly intimate, winding and are packed with bustling street vendors, and traffic whizzing past clusters of pedestrians and yet the city manages to preserve a serene air with its many small lakes dotted along the city. Step on to the famed Old Quarter and be stunned by the maze of 36 streets, each named for the commodities once sold there by businessmen from as early as the beginning of the 13th century. Itching for greener pastures? Then head out to Sa Pa, which is situated near the Chinese border. This mountainous town will greet you with the scenic views and is ideal for trekking or for a strong dash of Vietnamese culture.
